How to Care for Your Roof Top Tent

To ensure your tent remains a reliable companion on every adventure, proper care and maintenance is key. Below are practical tips on cleaning, storage, and routine upkeep to keep your Bull Proof Roof Top Tent in top shape.

1. Thorough Cleaning and Drying

Cleaning:

After each adventure, remove dirt, debris, and any organic matter from both the interior and exterior of your tent. Use a soft brush or vacuum to clear away dust, bird droppings, or sap. For stubborn stains, a gentle wash with a mild soap and water solution is ideal. Rinse well to remove any soap residue that might compromise the fabric.

Drying:

Before storing your tent, make sure it’s completely dry. Set it up in a well-ventilated, sunny area to allow moisture to evaporate. Pay special attention to seams, corners, and any hidden areas where dampness could linger. For those in cooler climates or overcast weather, using a gentle external heater and fan can help ensure every part of your tent dries thoroughly.

2. Smart Storage Solutions

Choose a Cool, Dry Space:

Storing your roof top tent in a cool, dry location is crucial. Garages that are free from excessive humidity work best. Avoid spaces prone to dampness to reduce the risk of mould development.

Keep It Elevated:

If possible, store your roof top tent off the ground. Elevating your tent helps prevent moisture from seeping up and protects the fabric from any potential water damage. Yes, it is safe to keep your roof top tent mounted on your vehicle!

Use a Breathable Cover:

Instead of a tarp cover that traps moisture, opt for a breathable fabric cover—like an old cotton sheet—to shield your tent from dust while allowing air circulation.

3. Protecting Against Moisture

Moisture Absorbers:

Even when your tent appears dry, using moisture absorbers such as silica gel or activated charcoal packs can provide extra protection. Place a few packs inside your storage container to capture any residual humidity.

Avoid Compression:

To maintain the shape and integrity of your rtt, avoid packing it too tightly. Removing bulky items like bedding or the mattress can promote better air flow and prevent damp spots from forming over time.

4. Routine Maintenance Checks

Periodic Inspections:

It’s important to check on your tent periodically even when it’s stored away. Every few weeks, inspect your Bull Proof Roof Top Tent for any signs of moisture or mould. If any areas seem damp, remove all bedding (including the mattress), clean it again, and allow it to air out properly before returning it to storage. Ensure that the Roof Top Tent does not have any bedding or mattress in it when being kept packed away for long periods of time.

Caring for Accessories:

Don’t forget about the accessories that come with your tent. Lubricate zippers to keep them running smoothly and ensure that mounting kits, brackets, and roof racks are free from rust and buildup. These routine checks help preserve the overall integrity of your setup, keeping every component ready for your next outing.
